Operational situation
On the Northern Slobozhansky direction, combat operations continued in the area of Novyi Put. Russian troops captured Bezsalivka, advanced to the center of Oleksiivka, tried to advance southeast of Andriivka, west of Varachyne, and attacked near Ryzhivka, Kindrativka, and Yunakivka.
Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a strike on the concentration area of the BARS "Kursk" detachment in the Oboyanskyi district of the Kursk Oblast, and counterattacked near Kindrativka, Varachyne, and Sadky.
On the Southern Slobozhansky direction, Russian troops advanced near Tykhe, attacked near Vovchansk, Synelnykove, on the southern bank of the Vovcha River, near Ambarne, and in the direction of Katerynivka, but without success.

On the Toretsk direction, the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 3rd Combined Arms Army fights for Oleksandro-Shultyne. The 103rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army advances north of Shcherbynivka, and the rest of the division's units are west and south of Katerynivka. The enemy tried to advance south of Nelipivka, attacked near Toretsk, Kleban-Byk, Yablunivka, Popiv Yar, Poltavka, Pleshchiivka, and in the direction of Stepanivka.
On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops tried to enter Hruzke from the southwest, and the southern outskirts of Vesele, advance on the eastern outskirts of Zolotyi Kolodyaz, east and southwest of Krasnyi Lyman, west of Zapovidne, to the southern outskirts of Petrivka, and cut the T0514 Dobropillya – Kramatorsk highway. They attacked in the direction of Bilytske, and near Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Krasnyi Lyman, Zapovidne, Kucherivskyi Yar, Novoekonomichne, Mykolaivka, Myroliubivka, Zatyshok, Volodymyrivka, Promin, Myrnohrad, Lysivka, Novoukrainka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne. They hold several positions along the railway west of Sukhetske. The 1st Motorized Rifle Battalion of the 77th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 7th military base of the 49th Combined Arms Army and the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps attack Ukrainian positions east of Zapovidne and captured a forest belt north of Zatyshok. The 137th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 41st Combined Arms Army and the 72nd Separate SOF Brigade of the 3rd Army Corps attack in the direction of Hrodivka and Myrnohrad, and advanced 1 km to Promin. The 15th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 2nd Combined Arms Army unsuccessfully attacks near Udachne. The 1437th Motorized Rifle Regiment operates in Zvirove.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated Novopavlivka and counterattacked near Novomykolayivka.
Russian troops attacked near Novopavlivka, Muravka, Horikhove, Novoukrainka, Dachne, Filiya, Tovste, Andriivka-Klevtsove, Voskresenka, Sichneve, Vilne Pole, Novoheorhiivka, Shevchenkove, in the direction of Lisne, Komyshuvakha, tried to advance west of Novoheorhiivka, and entrench themselves on the eastern outskirts of Oleksandrohrad.
On the Huliaypole direction, Russian troops attacked near Olhivske, Zelene Pole, and in the direction of Novohryhorivka.
On the Orikhiv direction, Russian troops tried to advance near Plavni, south of Stepnohirsk, and attacked near Mala Tokmachka, Nesteryanka, Shcherbaky, and in the direction of Prymorske.
General conclusion:
On the Northern Slobozhansky direction, Russian troops conduct approximately 5 attacks daily and launch between 30 and 50 guided aerial bombs airstrikes.
On the Southern Slobozhansky direction, Russian troops have not used armored vehicles for a long time, only motorcycles. Ukrainian Defense Forces' UAV airstrikes forced the enemy to locate their troop concentration areas 30 km from the line of contact.
Russian troops on the Lyman direction concentrated a significant number of personnel and continue massive frontal attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Serebriansk Forest area, and increased the use of “Lancet” and “Molniia” UAVs.
On the Toretsk direction, Russian troops attack in small groups. Infantry stealthily advances to assembly points, where it hides while awaiting reinforcement groups.
The enemy managed to avoid a significant deterioration of the operational situation in the Dobropillya area. The command of the 51st Combined Arms Army transferred the 1st Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade to the penetration area, which expanded the penetration toward Zapovidne and Shakhove. The enemy holds separate positions in Kucheriv Yar. The troops of the 8th Combined Arms Army actively attack with their left flank.
Russian troops simultaneously exert pressure on Pokrovsk, Kostyantynivka, and Dobropillya in order to identify and use weaknesses in the Ukrainian defense. Ukrainian Defense Forces' strikes complicate the enemy's concentration of forces in the penetration area in the Dobropillya area.

On the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks by the invaders.
On the Southern Slobozhansky direction, the enemy tried to advance in vain 10 times near Synelnykove, Vovchansk, Khatnie, Ambarne, Zapadne, and in the direction of Kolodyazne.
On the Kupyansk direction, 5 attacks by the occupiers occurred. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled the enemy's assault actions in the areas of Holubivka and Kupyansk.
On the Lyman direction, 24 combat engagements occurred. The enemy tried to advance forward near the settlements of Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Kolodyazi, Dibrova, Zarichne, Torske, and toward Yampil.
On the Siversk direction, 5 enemy attacks were repelled in the areas of Serebrianka, Vyimka, Hryhorivka, Siversk, and Fedorivka.
On the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy carried out 6 attacks in the area of Bila Hora and toward Predtechyne.
On the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian units 6 times in the areas of Oleksandro-Kalynove, Pleshchiivka, Sofiivka, Poltavka, and Toretsk.
On the Pokrovsk direction, 43 assault actions by the aggressor were stopped Nykanorivka, Novoekonomichne, Mykolaivka, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Horikhove, Myroliubivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Promin, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Muravka, Novoukrainka, Zatyshok, Kotlyne, Udachne, Lysivka, and Dachne.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 35 attacks by the invaders in the areas of Voskresenka, Zaporizke, Temyrivka, Zelene Pole, Tolstoy, Lisne, Olhivske, and in the direction of Komyshuvakha and Filiya.
On the Prydniprovske direction, enemy units tried to advance forward twice but were unsuccessful.
Supporting operation:
Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a missile strike on a Russian boat near Zaliznyi Port in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast and on military facilities in Nova Kakhovka.
A Special Operations Forces unit hit a train carrying fuels and lubricants near Dzhankoi in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a UAV airstrike on military unit 95408 in Sevastopol, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, where a Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation unit is located, and on the "Yuzhnyi" airfield.
Changes in the enemy disposition:
The 137th Airborne Regiment of the 106th Airborne Division and the 56th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division operate on the Sumy direction. The 51st Airborne Regiment of the 106th Airborne Division operates in Sadky. The 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 44th Army Corps strikes Ukrainian positions on the Sumy direction. The 83rd Separate Air Assault Brigade advances south of Yunakivka.
The 810th Separate Marines Brigade operates in Oleksiivka.

Possible operation situation developments:
According to the assessment of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the enemy will not be able to achieve the goal of the so-called special military operation to capture the entire Donetsk Oblast by the end of 2025. Provided current dynamics of combat operations are maintained, the enemy will be able to capture Pokrovsk by autumn, Kostyantynivka and Kupyansk by the end of the year, and reach the close approaches to Zaporizhzhia and the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration by early winter.
The command of the enemy's “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping, in cooperation with the right flank of the “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping, will expand its bridgehead northeast of Velykyi Burluk in the Southern Slobozhansky direction and will try to capture Khatnie.
On the Kupyansk direction, the command of the enemy's “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping will try to envelop the entire Kupyansk defense area of the “Khortytsia” OSG as deeply as possible from the north. The enemy will consolidate on the northern outskirts of Kupyansk and will try to paralyze the logistics support of Ukrainian Defense Forces' units defending in the city itself and east of it. The enemy will break through from the north and northeast to the R-07 Kharkiv–Chuhuiv–Kupyansk highway, attacking in the directions of Radkivka–Kovalivka and Radkivka–Myrne.
On the Lyman direction, the 25th Combined Arms Army will try to completely eliminate the bridgehead of Ukrainian Defense Forces on the northern bank of the Siverskyi Donets river in the area of the Serebriansk Forest. The troops of the 3rd Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces will soon be forced to leave their positions in the Serebriansk Forest and withdraw behind the Chornyi Zherebets river. Ukrainian units will withdraw towards Yampil and will try to stop the enemy along the Chornyi Zherebets river.
On the Siversk direction, the command of the enemy's "Yug (South)" Operational Grouping will attempt to eliminate the Siversk salient held by "Khortytsia" OSG and break through towards the Sloviansk – Kramatorsk agglomeration. The 3rd Combined Arms Army will try to break through to the northern bank of the Siverskyi Donets River between Yampil and Hryhorivka, and from the southeast – toward Siversk. In the near future, the enemy will try to capture Pereyizne and attack Zvanivka along the eastern bank of the Bakhmutka River, trying to break through to Siversk from the south.
On the Toretsk direction, the troops of the 19th Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces will have to leave the Shcherbynivka-Novospaske-Katerynivka-Kleban Byk area, retreat south of the Kleban Byk reservoir, and try to stop the advance of the enemy's 3rd and 8th Combined Arms Armies on the Pleshchiivka – Oleksandro-Shultyne line and go on the defensive in the area of Dovha Balka – Illinivka – Berestok – Stepanivka.
Russian forces will attack in the direction of Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka and Druzhkivka to cut the Н20 Kostyantynivka-Sloviansk highway and complicate the logistics of Ukrainian Defense Forces in Kostyantynivka, thereby facilitating the capture of the "fortress belt". Russian forces may also try to advance northwest of Chasiv Yar in the direction of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, transferring part of the troops to attack along the E40 Bakhmut – Sloviansk highway for this purpose, thereby creating conditions for an assault on the "fortress belt" from the northeast.
On the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy will develop its success in the area northeast of the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration in the operational zone of the 51st Combined Arms Army. Russian forces will advance from the southwest and northeast in an effort to envelop Pokrovsk and disrupt the logistical routes of the 9th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The 51st Combined Arms Army will continue to bypass the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration from the north and northeast and will try to advance as deeply as possible to Dobropillya, which will sharply worsen the prospects for the defense of not only Dobropillya and Pokrovsk, but also Druzhkivka and Kostyantynivka. The 2nd Combined Arms Army will then proceed to assault Pokrovsk from the south and southwest.
On the Novopavlivka direction, the command of the enemy's “Vostok (East)” Operational Grouping in the operational zones of the 36th and 29th Combined Arms Armies will try to capture the area between the Vovcha and Mokri Yaly rivers and Vorona and Vovcha rivers and reach the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in the Ivanivka-Temyrivka section.

Humanitarian + general:
From the evening of August 21, Russians attacked Ukraine with 55 Shahed strike drones and decoy drones. Anti-aircraft defense forces shot down or suppressed 46 of them, but nine drones hit four locations.
On the night of August 22, Russian troops attacked the Chuhuiv community with drones, hitting a non-operating industrial enterprise where empty warehouses were damaged.
At night, Russian troops attacked the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with "Grads", FPV drones, and an aerial bomb, damaging a communal enterprise, a farm, and residential buildings.
In the village of Kurhanne in the Kupiansk district, on the night of August 22, Russian FPV drones attacked a private residential area. A fire broke out, damaging houses and outbuildings. A 59-year-old man was killed and three more people were injured.
On August 22, Russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, damaging residential buildings, a store, the "Ukrposhta" building, and a gas pipeline. One person was injured. Later in the afternoon, Russian troops launched another strike on Kostiantynivka, killing two civilians.
Russian troops attacked the private sector of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, injuring three people. During the shelling, about ten explosions were heard, and numerous residential buildings were damaged. The full consequences are still being determined.
In the Kherson Oblast, the number of casualties from enemy attacks is growing. In Kherson today, two women, aged 35 and 44, were wounded by drones in the Dniprovskyi district around 3:30 p.m., with blast and acoustic barotrauma. Previously, a 64-year-old man from Antonivka was hospitalized with similar injuries from an enemy drone attack around 10:00 a.m. Earlier, on August 22, a drone attack on the highway near the village of Klapaia also caused injuries to two people.
The Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have reported a staff shortage: the staffing level of medical units is about 50%, which complicates the performance of duties. Due to the constant influx of wounded, hospitals are overloaded, so the Medical Forces are forced to involve civilian health care facilities to provide assistance.
73% of Ukrainians believe in Ukraine's victory in the war against Russia, while 17% do not. The greatest confidence in victory is observed among young people and residents of the southern oblasts, while the lowest is in the east of the country (55.5% versus 31% who do not believe). The survey was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Razumkov Center sociological service from August 12 to 18, 2025. Sociologists note a gradual decrease in belief in victory. In 2024, this indicator fell by 11 percentage points, and in the last year, it fell by another 4 points.
