Russian forces are unlikely to seize the “fortress belt” in 2026 but will achieve some tactical successes and sustain significant losses.
In the Lyman area, the enemy has increased airstrikes using KAB-3000 guided aerial bombs and “Lancet” and “Molinia” strike UAVs and is working to degrade Ukrainian logistics and the defensive capabilities of the Defense Forces’ 3rd Army Corps ahead of an offensive.
Russian forces are setting conditions for an operation toward Kramatorsk and Kostyantynivka: they have intensified assaults on the Sloviansk and Kramatorsk Directions, are attempting to advance on the high ground on the approaches to Kostyantynivka, are actively transferring personnel to Kostyantynivka, increasing the use of FPV drones and “Molinia” strike UAVs from Chasiv Yar, have moved armored vehicles to the direction, doubled the number of fire and air strikes on the Kramatorsk Direction, continue setting conditions for a spring–summer 2026 offensive, and have been conducting an air campaign against the southern edge of the “fortress belt” since at least the end of February this year.
Russian forces are attempting to seize key high ground east of Sloviansk, including near Kryva Luka, and will continue assaults while securing their flanks, as the terrain favors the defense. Ukrainian Defense Forces control of the dominant high ground east of Sloviansk will complicate the aggressor’s advance toward Sloviansk.
On the Pokrovsk Direction, Russian forces use varied routes during assaults, attempting to infiltrate their groups and disperse the attention of Ukrainian Defense Forces aerial reconnaissance, adapting their tactics based on prior experience.
On the Oleksandrivka Direction, Russian forces have been unable to stop Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattacks despite redeploying special operations elements to the direction. Defense Forces advances have slowed due to changing weather conditions, but troops continue to advance, exploiting the absence of prepared enemy defenses.

On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy attacked 5 times toward Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, Pishchane, and Hlushkivka.
On the Sloviansk Direction, 12 enemy attempts to penetrate the defense in the area of Serednie, toward Lyman, Stavky, and Dibrova, and to advance in the areas of Platonivka and Zakitne and toward Rai-Oleksandrivka were stopped.
On the Kostyantynivka Direction, the enemy carried out 18 attacks near Chasiv Yar, Kostyantynivka, Kleban-Byk, Yablunivka, Sofiivka, Pleshchiivka, and Rusyn Yar, and in the direction of Stepanivka, Illinivka, and Novopavlivka.
On the Pokrovsk Direction, 28 enemy assault actions were stopped in the areas of Shakhove, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Udachne, and Molodetske, and toward Nove Shakhove, Kucheriv Yar, Bilytske, and Novopavlivka.
On the Oleksandrivka Direction, the enemy attacked 6 times in the areas of Ternove, Zlahoda, and Krasnohirske.
On the Huliaypole Direction, 13 enemy attacks took place toward Zaliznychne, Varvarivka, Staroukrainka, Olenokostyantynivka, Zelene, Charivne, and Myrne.
On the Orikhiv Direction, an enemy attack in the direction of Prymorske was successfully repelled.
On the Prydniprovske Direction, the enemy carried out an unsuccessful attack.

The 12th Tank Regiment of the 423rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 4th Tank Division and the 15th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army are advancing on Borova.
The 85th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 3rd Combined Arms Army conducts reconnaissance between Riznykivka and Nykyforivka.
The 27th Artillery Regiment of the 6th Motorized Rifle Division of the 3rd Army Corps strikes in Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka; the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army strikes near Pavlivka, Novopavlivka, and Pryiut; the 33rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army operates in the direction of Druzhkivka.
Units of the “Rubikon” Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies coordinate guided aerial bomb airstrikes in Chernihivka, Svitle, Novofedorivka, Novooleksandrivka, and Shevchenkove. The 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Combined Arms Army strikes near Shevchenkove and Vodyanske.
The 64th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 35th Combined Arms Army operates near Dobropillya; the 14th Separate SOF Brigade operates near Lyubytske.
Possible operation situation developments:
Two offensive operations should be expected starting from the end of April 2026 — the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk and the Orikhiv-Zaporizhzhia operations. The disruption of the enemy’s summer offensive will lead to a prolonged loss of offensive capabilities, depletion of resources, and will provide a real chance to end the war. The Lyman, Sloviansk, and Kostyantynivka Directions are acquiring strategic significance, as the enemy’s military-political leadership is urgently requiring several convincing operational victories that can be presented as victory in the entire war.
The enemy “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping will continue to operate simultaneously along the Northern Slobozhansky Direction, the Southern Slobozhansky Direction, and the Velykyi Burluk Direction and will attempt to seize as large an area as possible in Sumy Oblast and Kharkiv Oblast with the aim of subsequent political bargaining for their exchange for territories in Donetsk Oblast that the enemy will be unable to seize.
On the Southern Slobozhansky Direction, in the Vovchansk area, the enemy “Belgorod–Kharkov” Tactical Group will continue attempts to break through along the eastern bank of the Siverskyi Donets in the southern direction and advance as far as possible in the Vovchansk–Bilyi Kolodyaz direction. Attempting to advance in the general Vovchansk–Staryi Saltiv direction, the Tactical Group command will try to secure the right flank of its main forces, which will advance toward Bilyi Kolodyaz.
In the Kupyansk area, Russian forces will attack along the Pishchane–Kurylivka line and further toward Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, as well as along the Kolisnykivka–Hlushkivka line and further toward Kivsharivka and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. The 6th Combined Arms Army of the enemy “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping will advance simultaneously on three directions: toward Staryi Saltiv, Velykyi Burluk, and in the Kupyansk area. The army’s troops will advance in the Krasne Pershe–Novovasylivka and Dvorichna–Ridkodub directions, attack in the Milove–Ambarne direction with the aim of capturing the latter and will try to outflank from the north and south the defensive strongpoint of the 16th Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kolodyazne area. The 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army will attempt to eliminate the bridgehead of the 16th Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces on the Oskil east of Kupyansk.
On the Sloviansk Direction, the enemy’s 3rd Combined Arms Army will break through to the Mykolaivka–Nykanorivka line and, with part of its forces, to the Vasylivska Pustosh–Vasyutynske line, in order to reach the near approaches to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk respectively.
On the Kostyantynivka direction, the enemy “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping will attempt to seize the Druzhkivka–Kostyantynivka agglomeration by enveloping the flanks of Kostyantynivka, while simultaneously breaking through to the near approaches to Druzhkivka, after which it will assault Kostyantynivka and push Ukrainian Defense Forces out of the Druzhkivka area under the threat of encirclement. Enemy forces will advance toward the Malotaranivka–Semenivka–Bilokuzmynivka–Komyshuvakha area north of Druzhkivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces will be forced to withdraw from the area between Kostyantynivka and the Kleban-Byk Reservoir under the threat of encirclement to the area north of road T0504, which will slow the assault actions of the enemy’s 3rd Army Corps in Kostyantynivka.
On the Dobropillya Direction, in the near term the enemy will attempt to break through to the northwest, striking with the adjacent flanks of the 2nd and 51st Combined Arms Armies and breaking through to the Novohryshyne–Dobropillya (village)–Chernihivka–Shevchenko area, i.e. reaching the near approaches to Dobropillya city from the south. In the operational zone of the “Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping, Russian forces can no longer simultaneously break through to Dobropillya from the south, southeast, and east, meaning they are already forced to accomplish this task sequentially. It is likely that the 2nd Combined Arms Army will first break through from the direction of Pokrovsk to the near approaches to Dobropillya from the south, after which the main effort of the “”Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping command will shift to the 51st Combined Arms Army’s sector, which will break through to the city from the east and southeast, following which the assault on Dobropillya will begin.
On the Oleksandrivka Direction, units of the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps, operating on the left flank of the 29th Combined Arms Army, will be forced to withdraw to the Voskresenka–Maliivka line and attempt to hold it; the forces of the 29th Combined Arms Army as a whole will be forced to withdraw from the Vovcha river on their left flank.
On the Huliaypole Direction, the 5th Combined Arms Army will in the near term attempt to break through to the Verkhnya Tersa–Huliaypilske line, with its forward units already pushing in the direction of Verkhnya Tersa from Zaliznychne and Zelene and attacking along the Huliaypole–Orikhiv road toward Huliaypilske from Zaliznychne and from Dorozhnyanka. In addition, the army will attempt to restore its positions along the Khaychur river.
On the Orikhiv Direction, after several failed attempts to bring Mala Tokmachka and the surrounding area under control from the west, the 76th Air Assault Division will shift its main effort axis to the northeast — along the Bilohirya–Luhivske line — in an attempt to support the advance on the adjacent flank of the 5th and 35th Combined Arms Armies, which are operating southwest of Huliaypole and have advanced in the area of Myrne and north of Zahirne.
On the Prydniprovske direction, the command of the enemy’s “Dnepr” Operational Grouping will continue trying to take control of most of the island zone in the Dnipro delta in the direction of Kherson, will try to create a tactical bridgehead on the right bank, and to eliminate the tactical bridgeheads of the 30th Marine Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the area of the automobile and railway bridges near Antonivka.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during the week Russia attacked Ukraine with two missiles, nearly 1,550 strike UAVs, and more than 1,260 guided aerial bombs. The President noted that over the same period the Russian Federation increased its crude oil sales thanks to sanctions relief, channeling the proceeds into the war effort.
According to the Air Force, on the night of 22 March the enemy attacked Ukraine with 139 UAVs. Air defense forces managed to shoot down or suppress 127 drones. Hits from 8 strike UAVs were recorded at 7 locations, with debris falling at 7 more. As of the morning of 22 March, the Russian attack was ongoing, with several enemy drones still airborne.
According to Kyiv Oblast Military Administration head Mykola Kalashnyk, on the night of 22 March Russian occupying forces attacked Brovary community with UAVs, damaging buildings at three civilian enterprises and causing a fire. In addition to the industrial facilities, the facades and roofs of two private houses and three vehicles were damaged. Preliminary reports indicate no civilian casualties, and the fire at one of the enterprises had been contained by morning.
According to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration head Oleksandr Hanzha, overnight on 22 March Russian occupying forces attacked the Oblast nearly 20 times, injuring a 22-year-old man with moderate injuries. In Nikopol district, the district center and three communities came under attack, with damage to infrastructure, residential buildings, solar panels, and vehicles. In Synelnykivsky district, one home was destroyed and five more damaged in the shelling, while damage to a dacha, outbuildings, and infrastructure facilities was recorded in Pavlohrad and Kryvorizky districts.
According to Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration head Viacheslav Chaus, on the night of 22 March Russian Geran UAVs attacked an agricultural enterprise in Koriukivsky district. One animal was killed in the strike on a cattle barn.
According to the State Emergency Service, on the night of 22 March in Sumy, Russian occupiers struck rescuers, damaging a fire engine. Specialists were inspecting the area following a previous impact when, as they were finishing their work, the enemy carried out a repeat strike near the fire tanker. There were no injuries.
According to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration head Oleksandr Hanzha and Kryvyi Rih City Military Administration head Oleksandr Vilkul, the Russian army attacked Kryvyi Rih, damaging an industrial infrastructure facility and an apartment building. Preliminary reports indicate no civilian casualties.
According to Odesa Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Kiper, on the afternoon of 22 March the Russian army attacked a farm and grain storage hangars in Odesa Oblast with UAVs. The strikes on civilian infrastructure facilities caused significant damage to the buildings. There were no civilian casualties.
According to Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov, Russian forces struck Komyshuvakha with guided aerial bombs, killing a 53-year-old man. The strike destroyed private houses and non-residential buildings and caused a fire.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Community and Territory Development Oleksiy Kuleba reported that since the beginning of the year Russian forces have carried out more than 180 attacks on port infrastructure in Odesa and Chornomorsk.
