Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the deployment area of a “Rubikon” Center for Advanced Unmanned Technologies unit in Zachativka in Donetsk oblast.
On the Huliaypole Direction, in the northwest of Huliaypole, Ukrainian Defense Forces drove units of the 1466th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division of the 5th Combined Arms Army from their positions.
Russian forces attacked near Zalizne and Hirke, in the direction of Verkhnya Tersa, near Svyatopetrivka, in the direction of Vozdvyzhivka and Zirnytsia, near Dobropillya, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Olenokostyantynivka, Pryvillya, in the direction of Zlahoda, near Myrne, and in the direction of Huliaypilske.
On the Orikhiv Direction, the 108th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division is fighting for Veselyanka. Russian forces attacked near Prymorske, Stepnohirsk, Novodanylivka, and Mala Tokmachka, and struck the bridge over the Konka river between Orikhiv and Preobrazhenka with a FAB-3000 bomb. The enemy is unsuccessfully attempting to advance near Orikhiv, attacking near Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Danylivka, in the direction of Mali Shcherbaky and Novopavlivka.
Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattacked near Malokaterynivka and struck enemy command posts near Zaporizke, Chervonoselivka, and Hoholivka. Counterattacks in the area of Richne and Prymorske forced infiltration groups to withdraw from the northern outskirts and center of Prymorske. Defense Forces drove Russian forces from Novoyakovlivka and from the area south of Pavlivka.
On the Prydniprovske Direction, Russian forces attacked in the direction of Antonivskyi Bridge.
Supporting operation:
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the enemy’s air defense system in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea: an S-300 SAM battalion radar near Spokoine, an “Oborona-14” radar, a “Nebo-U” radar, two radars in radiotransparent domes in Yevpatoria, military infrastructure facilities at Kirovske airfield, a storage site for “Orion” strategic strike-reconnaissance UAVs, and four of their control stations were completely destroyed. In Kherson oblast, a UAV depot in Novooleksiivka was struck.
Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the “Akron” chemical plant in Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod oblast.
General conclusion:
The enemy does not control Kupyansk, but the enemy’s “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping command portrays the situation as “neutral.”
On the Sloviansk Direction, the enemy relies on a manpower advantage of 10 to 1 in its favor and employs infiltration tactics. The enemy’s “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping deploys large numbers of minimally trained and poorly armed personnel to suppress Ukrainian units. Cheap “Molniya” UAVs are employed en masse.
On the Pokrovsk Direction, the kill zone established by Ukrainian Defense Forces continues to make the aggressor’s advances slow and costly. Russian forces continue to employ small group infiltration tactics and have poor logistics, particularly at positions in the tactical zone. Marshy terrain hampers Russian offensive operations. The enemy is increasing the intensity of strikes against Ukrainian areas 10–20 km from the front line.
Russian forces continue attempting to find alternatives to Starlink terminals, deploying antennas and repeaters on rooftops of multi-story buildings in the center of Myrnohrad, thereby extending the range of their UAVs.
Ukrainian Defense Forces have significantly increased FPV drone employment on the Pokrovsk Direction and control enemy logistics in depth from the front line. The occupiers’ EW systems are no longer capable of countering Ukrainian UAVs. The enemy requires 3–4 days to reach its operational bases. Within the 15 km zone, the aggressor’s logistics are effectively non-functional.
Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully counterattack not only on the Oleksandrivka and Huliaypole Directions but also in the western part of Zaporizhzhia oblast. These counterattacks generate tactical, operational, and strategic effects that may disrupt the enemy’s spring–summer 2026 offensive campaign plan. The enemy’s “Dnepr” Operational Grouping has effectively halted its offensive near Orikhiv and in the area south of Zaporizhzhia city.
Russian military command faces a far more complex operational situation in early March than at the start of 2026. Ukrainian Defense Forces have pinned Russian forces on the Huliaypole and Oleksandrivka Directions, and enemy headquarters are being forced to rapidly adapt to communications problems caused by the Starlink disruption. The enemy is unable to consolidate on the lines it reached in autumn 2025. Defense Forces’ success is partly attributable to Russian forces failing to follow through on advances achieved through infiltration tactics, with groups not consolidating on positions gained. Defense Forces’ ability to exploit the enemy’s tactical errors has denied Russian forces the jumping-off positions from which they intend to launch the summer campaign; the aim of reaching Zaporizhzhia city now appears an unrealistic objective.
Counterattacks in southern Ukraine are having strategic consequences in other parts of the theater. The enemy’s “Dnepr” Operational Grouping command will be forced to transfer forces from Kherson oblast to build up the grouping in the western part of Zaporizhzhia oblast to counter Ukrainian counterattacks. Enemy formations had previously redeployed from the Prydniprovske Direction to the Kostyantynivka and Druzhkivka areas; more recently, forces have redeployed to the Huliaypole and Oleksandrivka Directions. The 137th Air Assault Regiment of the 106th Air Assault Division was redeployed from Sumy oblast to Kherson oblast, causing a critical situation in the regiment’s former defensive sector near Yunakivka, which led to the regiment’s main forces being returned to Sumy oblast. Russian theater-level military command has rendered itself vulnerable in other areas of the theater by maneuvering forces to its southern part, while Russian forces are simultaneously attempting to advance on all directions.
The cascading consequences of Ukrainian counterattacks on the Oleksandrivka, Huliaypole, and Zaporizhzhia Directions reveal the limited actual capabilities of the enemy’s theater grouping. Operational reserves have already been committed simply to sustain current combat operations, including in Kupyansk. Airborne and marine infantry formations are redeploying from Donetsk oblast to Zaporizhzhia oblast to organize defense on the Oleksandrivka and Huliaypole Directions. The enemy’s limited strategic and operational reserves will hinder the plans of Russia’s military-political leadership on other theater directions, as the transfer of forces from Donetsk oblast to Zaporizhzhia oblast is already impeding the deployment of a strategic offensive operation in spring–summer 2026. Defense Forces’ tactical counterattacks have forced enemy command to make decisions at the operational and strategic levels, indicating an extremely low density of the aggressor’s combat formations on the eve of a planned major offensive. The Kremlin will be forced either to abandon or substantially revise its prior offensive plans and choose an operation in either Donetsk oblast or Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Change in the line of contact (LoC), directions of attacks and counterattacks:
There were 130 combat engagements on various fronts.
On the Southern Slobozhansky Direction, the enemy made three attempts to breach Ukrainian defensive lines toward Popivka and Lyman.
On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy attacked twice toward Novoplatonivka.
On the Sloviansk Direction, 16 enemy attempts to penetrate Ukrainian defense toward Stavky, Lyman, and Drobysheve, in the area of Zarichne, and to advance in the direction of Riznykivka and in the areas of Zakitne, Platonivka, and Fedorivka were stopped.
On the Kostyantynivka Direction, the enemy carried out 14 attacks in the areas of Nykyforivka, Kostyantynivka, Ivanopillya, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, and Sofiivka.
On the Pokrovsk Direction, 29 enemy assault actions were stopped in the areas of Chervonyi Lyman, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Molodetske, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novomykolayivka, and toward Vilne and Novooleksandrivka.
On the Oleksandrivka Direction, the enemy attacked 5 times in the areas of Ivanivka, Dobropillya, Ternove, Berezove, and Nove Zaporizhzhia.
On the Huliaypole Direction, 28 enemy attacks took place in the areas of Myrne, Luhivske, and Huliaypole and toward Zaliznychne, Varvarivka, Staroukrainka, Zelene, and Olenokostyantynivka.
On the Orikhiv Direction, one combat engagement took place in the direction of Prymorske.
Changes in the enemy disposition:
The 7th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the 47th Tank Division of the 1st Tank Army strikes south of Kurylivka; the 68th Motorized Rifle Division of the 6th Combined Arms Army operates on the Kupyansk Direction; the 1432nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 1st Tank Army operates near Bohuslavka.
The 4th Battalion of the 103rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army operates near Berestok.
The 1307th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 6th Motorized Rifle Division of the 3rd Army Corps strikes in Kostyantynivka; the 238th Artillery Brigade strikes in the western part of Dmytrivka; the 57th Separate SOF Company of the 8th Combined Arms Army operates near Rayske and Shevchenkove.
The 60th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 5th Combined Arms Army strikes on the Huliaypole Direction; the 69th Separate Cover Brigade of the 35th Combined Arms Army operates on the Oleksandrivka Direction and in the northern part of the Huliaypole Direction.
Possible operation situation developments:
The enemy has begun preparations for this year’s summer campaign. Two offensive operations should be expected starting from the end of April 2026 — the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk and the Orikhiv-Zaporizhzhia operations. The disruption of the enemy’s summer offensive will lead to a prolonged loss of offensive capabilities, depletion of resources, and will provide a real chance to end the war. The Lyman, Sloviansk, and Kostyantynivka directions are acquiring strategic significance, as the enemy’s military-political leadership is urgently requiring several convincing operational victories that can be presented as victory in the entire war.
The enemy “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping will continue to operate simultaneously along the Northern Slobozhansky Direction, the Southern Slobozhansky Direction, and the Velykyi Burluk Direction and will attempt to seize as large an area as possible in Sumy Oblast and Kharkiv Oblast with the aim of subsequent political bargaining for their exchange for territories in Donetsk Oblast that the enemy will be unable to seize.
On the Southern Slobozhansky Direction, in the Vovchansk area, the enemy “Belgorod–Kharkov” Tactical Group will continue attempts to break through along the eastern bank of the Siverskyi Donets in the southern direction and advance as far as possible in the Vovchansk–Bilyi Kolodyaz direction. Attempting to advance in the general Vovchansk–Staryi Saltiv direction, the Tactical Group command will try to secure the right flank of its main forces, which will advance toward Bilyi Kolodyaz.
In the Kupyansk area, Russian forces will intensify operations along the Pishchane–Kurylivka line and further toward Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi, as well as along the Kolisnykivka–Hlushkivka line and further toward Kivsharivka and Kupyansk-Vuzlovyi. The 6th Combined Arms Army of the enemy “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping will advance simultaneously on three directions: toward Staryi Saltiv, Velykyi Burluk, and in the Kupyansk area. The army’s troops will attempt to advance from the Dvorichanske bridgehead in the Krasne Pershe–Novovasylivka and Dvorichna–Ridkodub directions, attack in the Milove–Ambarne direction with the aim of capturing the latter and will try to outflank from the north and south the defensive strongpoint of the 16th Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kolodyazne area. The 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army will attempt to eliminate the bridgehead of the 16th Army Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces on the Oskil east of Kupyans.
On the Sloviansk Direction, the command of the enemy’s 3rd Combined Arms Army has an immediate task to reach the Mykolaivka – Nykanorivka line with its main forces, that is, to reach the near approaches to Sloviansk from the east, and reach the Vasylivska Pustosh – Vasyutynske line with part of its forces, that is, the near approaches to Kramatorsk from the east.
On the Kostyantynivka direction, the enemy “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping will attempt to seize the Druzhkivka–Kostyantynivka agglomeration by enveloping the flanks of Kostyantynivka, while simultaneously breaking through to the near approaches to Druzhkivka, after which it will seize Kostyantynivka by assault and push Ukrainian Defense Forces out of the Druzhkivka area under the threat of encirclement. Enemy forces will advance toward the Malotaranivka–Semenivka–Bilokuzmynivka–Komyshuvakha area north of Druzhkivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces will be forced to withdraw from the area between Kostyantynivka and the Kleban-Byk Reservoir under the threat of encirclement to the area north of road T0504, , which will slow the assault actions of the enemy’s 3rd Army Corps in Kostyantynivka.
On the Pokrovsk Direction, the enemy’s “Tsentr (Center)” Operational Grouping will continue its offensive, delivering its main strike within the 2nd Combined Arms Army’s advance corridor in the general direction of Pokrovsk – Hryshyne – Novooleksandrivka, and will attempt to envelop the Dobropillya defensive area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. To execute this plan, the 51st Combined Arms Army will drive from the east, southeast, and south toward the near approaches to Dobropillya, attempt to reach the Stepy – Novyi Donbas line, and break through to the Krasnopillya – Chernihivka – Svitle – Vodyanske area. A further task for the army is to cut the Dobropillya – Kramatorsk road northeast of Dobropillya. The 2nd Combined Arms Army and a portion of the 41st Combined Arms Army’s forces will advance from the south, breaking through toward the Novohryshyne – Matyasheve line, while simultaneously covering the western flank of the 51st Combined Arms Army, advancing along the road to Pavlohrad and the Hrishynka river to the northwest in the direction of Hryshyne – Novooleksandrivka – Myrne. A further task is to reach the Serhiivka – Shylivka line.
The 51st Combined Arms Army’s attempts to advance north of Biletske, envelop Dobropillya from the east, and simultaneously break through to the Dobropillya – Kramatorsk road will become increasingly difficult to pursue in combination. The army’s main strike direction will shift to the south of Biletske, but the overall tempo of the offensive in the other sectors of its bridgehead will decrease.
Should Ukrainian Defense Forces continue advancing south along both banks of the Yanchur river and reach the Uspenivka area, the enemy’s 5th Combined Arms Army will be forced to halt its offensive and redeploy its right flank to face north to avoid a breakthrough by the Defense Forces’ 10th Army Corps into its rear. The army’s troops will have to withdraw from positions north of Huliaypole (along the Khaychur river). The situation for the enemy’s “Vostok (East)” Operational Grouping may deteriorate further if Ukrainian Defense Forces break through to Temyrivka, in which case a gap of up to 8 km along the front will open between the 5th and 36th Combined Arms Armies.
On the Prydniprovske direction, the command of the enemy’s “Dnepr” Operational Grouping will continue trying to take control of most of the island zone in the Dnipro delta in the direction of Kherson, will try to create a tactical bridgehead on the right bank, and to eliminate the tactical bridgeheads of the 30th Marine Corps of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the area of the automobile and railway bridges near Antonivka.
