Operational situation
In the operational zone of the Ukrainian Operational-Strategic Group of Forces (OSG) "Khortytsia" on the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 5 Russian attacks in the areas of Synkivka and Ivanivka, where the enemy attempted to break through their defense. On the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 4 Russian attacks near Terny. On the Bakhmut direction, they repelled 4 enemy attacks near Ivanivske and Klishchiivka.
In the "Tavriya" OSG operational zone on the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain the enemy, who persists in attempting to encircle Avdiivka. During the past day, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 26 enemy attacks in the area of Avdiivka, near Pervomaiske and Nevelske. On the Maryinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued holding back the enemy near Heorhiivka, Pobieda and Novomykhailivka of Donetsk Oblast, repelling 16 attacks. On the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled one Russian attack west of Verbove.
In the operational zone of the "Odesa" OSG, on the Kherson direction the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold positions and repel assaults by occupation forces. Despite significant losses, the adversary persists in attempts to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions. Over the past day, the enemy made 2 unsuccessful assault attempts.
General conclusion:
The adversary is focusing efforts on capturing Avdiivka, attempting to break through to the city from the south and cut off the Lastochkyne - Avdiivka road, the main logistical route of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in this area. Due to a lack of resources, the Russian military command is forced to reduce the pace of advance on all other fronts.
Change in the line of contact (LoC):
There were 110 combat engagements on various fronts.
On the Kupyansk direction, in Synkivka, the enemy has regained previously lost positions for the fourth time and controls up to 15% of the village. In Kyslivka, the adversary has seized part of its outskirts and is attempting to exploit this success. In the area of Petropavlivka, the enemy has advanced 300 meters and is attempting to advance north of Tabaivka, bypassing it, and has achieved partial success. Positional battles have been ongoing in the areas of Ivanivka and Krokhmalne. Russian forces are deploying reserves to the Synkivka area.
The "Khortytsia" OSG steadfast defense in the Synkivka and Kyslivka areas has bought time to strengthen the defense on the Kupyansk-Vuzlovy direction.
On the Lyman direction, in the areas of Stelmakhivka, Yahidne, and west of Novoselivka, the enemy had minor successes, mostly in the gray zone. Positional battles took place near Terny, Yampolivka, and Serebryansk Forest.
The "Khortytsia" OSG troops recently advanced north of Bilohorivka, while Russian forces moved southwest of Dibrova (southwest of Kreminna).
On the Bakhmut direction, Positional combat operations were ongoing near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske and Klishchiivka.
On the Avdiivka direction, Russian forces have made slight progress in the eastern part of Stepove, near the sand quarry. Positional battles have taken place in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, in the direction of Ocheretyne, on the outskirts of Avdiivka, near Opytne, in the direction of Lastochkyne, near Nevelske, and Pervomaiske. Russian troops are concentrated on blocking Hrushevsky Street, the main logistical route of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in Avdiivka. Russian aviation has intensified its strikes with FAB glide bombs on Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka.
Russian forces launched a missile strike with 8 KN-23 tactical missiles of North Korean production on Selydove.
On the Shakhtarsk direction, units of the 155th Separate Marines Brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet have advanced towards the eastern outskirts of Novomykhailivka, while other enemy units have entered Heorhiivka. Positional battles continued near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka.
Tokmak direction: Positional battles continued near Verbove, Novoprokopivka, and Robotyne.
Kherson direction, Russian forces have achieved partial success in the central and western parts of Krynky.
In the Black Sea-Azov naval operational area, the enemy naval group on combat duty consisted of:
Black Sea: 4 ships.
Azov Sea: 1 ship.
Mediterranean Sea: 2 ships, including 1 cruise missile carrier. The total “Kalibr” missile salvo is 8 cruise missiles.

Possible operation situation developments:
The Russian Federation plans to seize the entire Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts and part of Kharkiv Oblast up to the Oskil River by March 2024. Over the next 36 months, Russia intends to capture parts of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv Oblasts.
The breach in the defense of the "Tavria" OSG and the subsequent advance of the enemy's forward units from the eastern and southeastern sectors of the Avdiivka Coking Plant territory, reaching the line of the "Brevno" restaurant - Avdiivka vehicle station - "Ivushka" gardening community - western edge of the sand quarry, would mark the end of organized and cohesive defense of Avdiivka.
The adversary will reinforce its grouping in the Novomykhailivka area with the 103rd and 163rd Tank Regiments of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Army or the 5th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps.
The Russian command is gradually reinforcing its formation in the northern and central parts of the Vuhledar bulge of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, given that the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps, reinforced by the 1442nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Territorial Troops, continues its operations in the directions of Syhnalne–Novomykhailivka and Stepne–Novomykhailivka.

Humanitarian+general:
According to information provided by the Situation Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Russian troops shelled 9 regions of Ukraine over the past day. A total of 143 towns and villages and 76 infrastructure objects were attacked with various types of weapons. 4 civilians were reported dead and 10 injured in different regions of Ukraine. The number of casualties is being updated/clarified.
As of the morning of February 9, 2024, according to official information from juvenile prosecutors, 523 children have died, and over 1,218 have sustained injuries of varying severity due to the full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
International law enforcement agencies, using OSINT methods, have successfully located eight Ukrainian children who were deported by Russian authorities. The digital search was initiated by the Dutch police and Europol. Due to security concerns, the police cannot disclose any information about the identities or whereabouts of the children.
During almost two years of war, Russia has carried out 815 chemical attacks in Ukraine, with 229 occurring in January alone. The Russian military frequently employs grenades like K-51, RGR, and RG-Vo, which contain the dangerous chemical agent CS. The use of this substance in warfare is prohibited under Article 1, Paragraph 5 of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
