Russia's war on Ukraine. 04.08.25
Operational situation
On the Northern Slobozhansky direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces hold positions in Kindrativka, have blocked the enemy's logistics to Yunakivka, attack in the directions of Kindrativka – Kostyantynivka and Andriivka – Zolotarivsky Nature Reserve, gradually advance towards Oleksiivka from the southeast, and try to hold on in Novomykolayivka.
The 51st Airborne Regiment of the 10th Airborne Division cannot capture and goes over to the defensive. The 1434th Motorized Rifle Regiment conducts combat operations near Varachyne. Forward units of the 11th and 83rd Separate Air Assault Brigades periodically attack in the directions of Yablunivka – Varachyne and Vodolaha – Varachyne, unsuccessfully trying to advance south, along the Snagost River. Assault units of the 76th Air Assault Division continue fierce battles for Yunakivka and unsuccessfully try to advance south towards Khrapivshchyna and Maryine. Parts of the 106th Airborne Division and the 810th Separate Marine Brigade fruitlessly try to occupy a large forest area north of the Sadky farmstead.
On the Southern Slobozhansky direction, Russian troops attacked the Hoptivka border crossing, near Vovchansk and Vovchanski Khutory.
On the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops fought on the northern outskirts of Kupyansk, attacked near Krasne Pershe, Fiholivka, Kamyanka, Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, in the direction of Novovasylivka.
The 6th Combined Arms Army builds up efforts north of Kupyansk from the bridgehead on the Oskil River. The 68th Motorized Rifle Division of the army and the 27th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Tank Army are regrouped to this direction.
On the Lyman direction, the 36th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division of the 25th Combined Arms Army continues battles for Torske and has an advance there. Russian troops attacked in the direction of Serednie, Shandryholove, near Karpivka, Torske, in the area of the Serebriansk forest. Several assault groups of the 254th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division advanced south of Karpivka towards Serednie by approximately 400 m. Assault units of the 37th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the 19th Tank Regiment of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division managed to occupy the northern and central parts of Torske, entrench in the village, and advance more than 2 km south of the Lyman – Kreminna road.
Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced in the center of Ridkodub.
On the Siversk direction, Russian troops attacked near Siversk, Serebrianka, Hryhorivka, Vyimka. Assault units of the 6th, 127th, 123rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades of the 3rd Combined Arms Army attack quite actively in the directions of Hryhorivka – Serebrianka, Verkhnyokamianske – Siversk, Ivano-Dariivka – Vyimka, and Berestove – Vyimka. Units of the 127th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade broke through to Hryhorivka, the 123rd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade advanced 1 km between Verkhnyokamianske and Ivano-Dariivka along the northern bank of the Sukha Plotva River. The enemy fruitlessly tried to attack in the directions of Rozdolivka – Pereyizne, and on Vyimka along the railway.
On the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops attacked near Novomarkove, Markove, Stupochky, Bila Hora, and Oleksandro-Shultyne.
Forward units of the 331st Airborne Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division reached Dniprovskyi Pond and occupied part of the center of Chasiv Yar. The "Shevchenko," "Tsekh No2," and "Pivdennyi" neighborhoods remain under the control of Ukrainian Defense Forces. The enemy is forced to fight to hold the "Novopivnichnyi" neighborhood. Enemy attacks across the Siverskyi Donets – Donbas canal north of the city in the direction of Hryhorivka – Markove are also still unsuccessful for the enemy.
On the Toretsk direction, Russian troops attacked near Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Katerynivka, Yablunivka, Oleksandro-Kalynove, Popiv Yar, Poltavka, in the direction of Ivanopillya and Stepanivka.
On the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops captured Novoukrainka, fight for Troyanda, tried to advance to Bilytske, between Shakhove and Nove Shakhove, in the northeast of Krasnyi Lyman, near Myroliubivka, attacked near Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Mayak, Volodymyrivka, Zapovidne, Novoekonomichne, Myrnohrad, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Novoukrainka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, in the direction of Novopidhorodnie and Molodetske, established fire control over a section of the T0515 Pokrovsk – Bilytske highway.
Ukrainian Defense Forces pushed Russian troops back to Volodymyrivka, hold positions in the northwest of Zapovidne, in Leontovychi.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Russian troops advanced northeast of Novoukrainka, to Andriivka-Klevtsove, attacked Novopavlivka, near Zelenyi Kut, Horikhove, Zaporizhzhia, Filiya, Novokhatske and Tovste, Voskresenka, Myrne, Maliivka, for which they are fighting.
On the Huliaypole direction, Russian troops attacked near Levadne, Novopil, Temyrivka, Zelene Pole.
Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattacked near Temyrivka.
On the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced on the southern outskirts of Plavni, counterattacked near Kamianske.
Russian troops tried to advance in Plavni, in the southern part of Stepnohirsk, where they hold on to the outskirts of Stepnohirsk, attacked near Kamianske.
On the Prydniprovske direction, Russian troops attacked near Antonivsky Bridge. Enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups operate on the islands of the Dnipro River delta.
General conclusion:
The most difficult situation on the front line is on the Pokrovsk, Dobropillya, and Novopavlivka directions. Enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups and individual infantry groups try to enter Pokrovsk. Russian troops try to advance to Hryshyne from the Kotlyne – Udachne area to envelop Pokrovsk from the west and northwest.
On the Northern Slobozhansky direction, based on the reduced combat capability of enemy troops due to significant losses, Ukrainian Defense Forces have prospects of reaching the Kostyantynivka – Volodymyrivka line within the next week, significantly cutting off the enemy's incursion in the border area of Sumy Oblast.
On the Kupyansk direction, Russian troops have reduced the number of attacks and at the same time significantly increased the number of artillery strikes. The enemy is preparing to storm Kupyansk. As of today, the aggressor's troops have advanced from Radkivka past the R79 Kupyansk – Dvorichna highway and reached the UkrAvtoGaz gas station on the northern outskirts of Kupyansk. At the same time, the enemy, while securing these actions from the northern flank, is fighting to hold Kindrashivka, where several of its assault units previously broke through.
If the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Grouping (OSG) does not manage to push the enemy's advanced units back from the Kindrashivka – Radkivka line in the northeastern direction in the near future, then holding Kupyansk and the bridgehead east of it will become impossible.
On the Lyman direction, the pace of advance of the enemy's forward units on the bridgehead on the Chornyi Zherebets River in the direction of Lyman and Oskil (the Pisky-Radkivski – Lozove line) has significantly decreased, where the 144th and 3rd Motorized Rifle Divisions of the 20th Combined Arms Army operate, reinforced by parts of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Tank Army. Despite active offensive actions in the directions of Lypove – Karpivka, Nove – Ridkodub, Zelena Dolyna – Shandryholove, the enemy's forward units could not achieve a significant result even at the tactical level.
On the Siversk direction, the most problematic areas for Ukrainian Defense Forces are the Bilohorivka – Hryhorivka – Serebrianka direction, where the enemy's advance has not yet been completely stopped, and Verkhnyokamianske – Siversk, where the 3rd Combined Arms Army delivers the main strike. The enemy has not yet been able to break through with its forward units to the eastern outskirts of Siversk. Large open areas of the terrain do not favor the enemy's offensive actions using a significant number of infantry and armored vehicles.
On the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops regularly attack, but contrary to their statements, they have not captured Chasiv Yar. Ukrainian Defense Forces hold enemy communications in the area of the city under fire control, which forces the enemy to deliver ammunition and provisions to frontline positions on foot.
The inclusion of part of the 51st Combined Arms Army's offensive zone up to the outskirts of Toretsk into the operational zone of the 3rd Combined Arms Army, which in turn was regrouped to the Pokrovsk direction, did not have the best effect on the 3rd Combined Arms Army itself, despite the operational subordination of the 3rd Army Corps in full. The breakthrough of Russian troops to Kostyantynivka and Druzhkivka from the northeast through Chasiv Yar, which was planned by the Kostyantynivka operation, fell behind schedule, because the 8th Combined Arms Army could not quickly break through in the northern direction from Toretsk, and in a month of fierce bloody battles, its troops operating from the Novoolenivka - Romanivka line only broke through to Yablunivka and created several tactical incursions northwest and north of Toretsk in the direction of Shcherbynivka and Bila Hora.
The regrouping of troops between the two enemy Operational Groupings, “Tsentr (Center)” and “Yug (South),” was intended to concentrate the maximum number of troops on the Pokrovsk direction. The regrouping of troops of the 51st Combined Arms Army from the Toretsk direction to the Pokrovsk direction led to a slowdown in the advance of the 8th Combined Arms Army troops. The involvement of part of the 3rd Army Corps troops did not significantly improve the situation. The enemy cannot capture Shcherbynivka and Pleshchiivka, which in turn complicates the breakthrough to Kostyantynivka.
On the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue fighting for Kamianske, where they hold part of the village.
In the southern part of Donetsk Oblast, Russian troops massively conduct photo shoots, imitating the capture of towns and villages to create false reports.
Change in the line of contact (LoC):
There were 183 combat engagements on various fronts.
On the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 19 Russian attacks. The enemy delivered 12 air strikes.
On the Southern Slobozhansky direction, 8 combat engagements occurred over the past day in the areas of Vovchansk, Kutkivka, Fiholivka, and Krasne Pershe.
On the Kupyansk direction, 9 invader attacks were recorded. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled enemy assault actions in the areas of Holubivka, Petropavlivka, Novo-Osynove, Stepova Novoselivka, and Nova Kruhlyakivka.
On the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 29 times, trying to advance near Karpivka, Olhivka, Ridkodub, Torske, Hryhorivka, in the direction of Serednie, Cherneshchyna, Shandryholove.
On the Siversk direction, the aggressor attacked near Hryhorivka and in the direction of Serebrianka and Siversk. A total of 5 combat engagements occurred.
On the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled eight enemy attacks near Chasiv Yar, Markove, and towards Bila Hora and Stupochky.
On the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 13 attacks in the areas of Rusyn Yar, Shcherbynivka, Toretsk, Katerynivka, and in the direction of Oleksandro-Kalynove.
On the Pokrovsk direction, 49 aggressor attacks were stopped in the areas of Popiv Yar, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Horikhove, in the direction of Novoukrainka, Novopidhorodnie, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 22 enemy assaults in the areas of Zaporizhzhia, Novokhatske, Voskresenka, Zelene Pole, Myrne, Maliivka, Temyrivka, Novopil, and in the direction of Levadne.
On the Prydniprovske direction, the enemy attacked twice without success.

The 14th Separate SOF Brigade delivers strikes on Ukrainian troops near Novopetrovske, Poltavka, and Chervone, the 38th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 35th Combined Arms Army strikes near Huliaypole, Chervone, Malynivka, Myrne, the 305th Artillery Brigade of the 5th Combined Arms Army fights near Olhivske.
The 108th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division and the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Combined Arms Army operate near Kamianske.
Possible operation situation developments:
According to the estimates of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, the enemy will not be able to achieve the Kremlin's goal of capturing the entire Donetsk Oblast by the end of 2025. The new operational task of the enemy grouping in the theater of military operations is to advance to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and create a buffer zone 10 km deep. Provided current dynamics of combat operations are maintained, the enemy will be able to capture Pokrovsk by autumn, Kostyantynivka and Kupyansk by the end of the year, and reach the close approaches to Zaporizhzhia and the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration by early winter.
On the Northern Slobozhansky direction, the enemy’s “Sever (North)” Operational Grouping is trying to reach the Mala Korchakivka – Nova Sich – Maryinka – Sadky line.
The command of the enemy's "Sever (North)" Operational Grouping in cooperation with the right flank of “Zapad (West)” Operational Grouping in the Southern Slobozhansky direction, will attempt to expand its bridgehead northeast of Velykyi Burluk and capture Khatnie before attacking the city. For this purpose, the troops will have to force the Velykyi Burluk River on the Shevchenkove – Mykhailivka – Velykyi Burluk line. The Vovchansk – Velykyi Burluk – Dvorichna line can become a powerful defensive line within Russia's buffer zone in northern Kharkiv Oblast in the medium- and long-term perspective.
On the Kupyansk direction, the enemy aims to break through from the north and northeast to the R07 Kharkiv – Chuhuiv – Kupyansk highway, which is the main logistical route of the “Khortytsia” Operational-Strategic Grouping (OSG ) in the direction. Therefore, it will persistently attack in the directions of Radkivka – Kovalivka and Radkivka – Myrne, despite losses. Success will allow the enemy to completely block the logistics of a significant part of the group defending Kupyansk itself and holding a significant bridgehead east of it across the Oskil River.
On the Lyman direction, the advance of assault units of the 67th Motorized Rifle Division of the 25th Combined Arms Army south of the Kreminna – Lyman road has significantly worsened the position of Ukrainian Defense Forces units defending in the Serebriansk Forest. The enemy breaks through along the Chornyi Zherebets River from north to south, trying to get behind them. Considering the creeping advance of the 3rd Combined Arms Army troops on the opposite bank of the Siverskyi Donets River from east to west and the beginning of battles for Hryhorivka, it is highly probable that in the near future, units of the “Khortytsia” OSG will either have to completely withdraw from this area and retreat behind the Chornyi Zherebets River, or try to hold it, defending with "inverted" flanks.
On the Siversk direction, the command of the enemy's "Yug (South)" Operational Grouping will attempt to eliminate the Siversk salient held by "Khortytsia" OSG and break through towards the Sloviansk – Kramatorsk agglomeration. The 3rd Combined Arms Army will try to break through to the northern bank of the Siverskyi Donets River between Yampil and Hryhorivka, and from the southeast – toward Siversk. In the near future, the enemy will try to capture Pereyizne and attack Zvanivka along the eastern bank of the Bakhmutka River, trying to break through to Siversk from the south.
Russian forces may try to attack directly west of Chasiv Yar in the direction of Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka and Druzhkivka to cut the H20 Kostyantynivka – Sloviansk highway and complicate the logistics of Ukrainian Defense Forces in Kostyantynivka, thereby facilitating envelopment and capture efforts of the "fortress belt". Russian forces may also try to advance northwest of Chasiv Yar in the direction of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, transferring part of the troops to attack along the E40 Bakhmut – Sloviansk highway for this purpose, thereby creating conditions for an assault on the "fortress belt" from the northeast. The advance of troops of the 3rd Combined Arms Army near Siversk may contribute to the adoption of such a decision by the command of the adversary's “Yug (South)” Operational Grouping.
Northeast of Pokrovsk, the enemy will continue attacks with troops of the 51st Combined Arms Army in the direction of Rodynske from both Fedorivka and Razyne, while attempting to break through as close as possible to Dobropillya. In addition, the enemy will continue attacks in the Novoekonomichne – Myrnohrad and Myroliubivka – Myrnohrad directions. If the rates of advance of the 51st Combined Arms Army's assault units do not drastically decrease in the near future, the further fate of Pokrovsk will be decided. To begin the decisive assault on Pokrovsk, the command of the 41st Combined Arms Army only needs to await the 51st Combined Arms Army's troops reaching the city from the east and northeast. A breakthrough by the 51st Combined Arms Army to Dobropillya could significantly complicate the situation for the "Khortytsia" OSG, which will cause an operational-scale crisis on the Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk directions.
On the Novopavlivka direction, the command of the enemy "Vostok (East)" Operational Grouping is trying to capture the area of Havrylivka – Zelenyi Hai – Temyrivka – Novomykolayivka between the Vovcha and Vorona rivers, at the junction of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. The lines for the armies' immediate objectives may be: for the 5th Combined Arms Army it is the Komyshuvakha – Temyrivka line, and for the 36th and 29th Combined Arms Armies it is the Havrylivka – Novoselivka line. In the near future, continued enemy attacks should be expected in the operational zone of the 29th Combined Arms Army in the direction of Piddubne – Iskra along the Zaporizhzhia – Donetsk highway, and for the 36th Combined Arms Army, an assault on Voskresenka from three directions and a further breakthrough towards Novoselivka should be expected. The Operational Grouping seeks to reach the eastern bank of the Vovcha River in the Novoselivka – Iskra sector as quickly as possible. The 5th Combined Arms Army will try to conduct similar actions further south, on the Vorona River, to capture Temyrivka and advance towards Komyshuvakha.
The command of "Vostok (East)" Operational Grouping can begin an offensive operation in the western direction through Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts, using highway H15 Kurakhove – Zaporizhzhia, forcing the Khaychur, Solona, Verkhnya Tersa, and Vovcha rivers, crossing highways T0408 Preobrazhenka – Novomykolayivka and T0401 Pokrovsk – Huliaypole, seizing several cities the size of Chasiv Yar, which could become a significant problem for the aggressor. A rapid advance to Zaporizhzhia from positions in Novokhatske over 150 km, considering the current pace of the enemy's offensive, is unlikely.
