Russia's war on Ukraine. 04.04.25
Operational situation
On the Kursk direction, Russian forces advanced on the northern outskirts of Guevo, attempted to advance toward Oleshnia and east of Basivka. Fighting continues in the north of Sumy Oblast.
Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattacked near Veselivka.
On the Belgorod direction, fighting continues northwest of Belgorod near Demydivka and Popovka.
On the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attacked near Vovchansk.
On the Kupyansk direction, Russian forces attacked near Kamyanka, Zahryzove, Nova Kruhlyakivka, Novoyehorivka, Nadiya, Novoserhiyivka, and Hrekivka.
On the Lyman direction, Russian forces advanced northwest of Novolyubivka, attacked near Katerynivka, Novomykhailivka, Kolodyazi, Yampolivka, Dibrova, and Torske. The enemy is heavily attacking toward Nove and Zelena Dolyna.
Assault units of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army attempt to break into and entrench in Katerynivka. In the offensive zone of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division, operating from its bridgehead on the Chornyi Zherebets River near Ivanivka, after a recent breakthrough in the tactical zone toward Katerynivka and Zelena Dolyna, the enemy has been unable to advance further to the north or northwest for three days. The 3rd Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army, continuing attacks from the bridgehead in the Makiyivka – Hrekivka direction, has been unable to achieve significant results.
On the Siversk direction, Russian forces advanced near Bilohorivka and Verkhnyokamianske.
On the Kramatorsk direction, Russian forces attempted to advance north of the Dniprovskiy Pond in the northwest of Chasiv Yar and toward the city center near the fire-resistant brick plant, attacking in the direction of Novomarkove, Stupochky, and Predtechyne.
The enemy is concentrating forces along the Siverskyi Donets – Donbas canal.
On the Toretsk direction, Russian forces advanced in the center of Toretsk, attempted to move toward the outskirts of Valentynivka, Sukhа Balka, and in the forest near the “Tsentralna” mine.
The 68th Tank Regiment of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army and the 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army clear Panteleymonivka. The enemy advanced near Leonidivka, Dachne, Druzhba, Dyliivka, Ozaryanivka, and Krymske.
The 242nd and 255th Motorized Rifle Regiments of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division together with the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 68th Army Corps have been unable to take Yelyzavetivka, and their forward units, which reached the Pokrovsk – Bakhmut highway near the road junction east of Malynivka, were pushed back by a counterattack by Ukrainian Defense Forces to the south of it.
On the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced in the west of Novoyelyzavetivka, on the western outskirts of Solone, and liberated Nadiivka.
The 90th Tank Division of the 41st Combined Arms Army is engaged in combat in Troitske. Russian forces are trying to seize Bohdanivka, advance southwest of Kotlyarivka, and attacked near Tarasivka, Yelyzavetivka, Vodyane Druhe, Promin, Zelene, Vidrodzhennya, Udachne, Novoserhiyivka, Nadiivka, Uspenivka, Kotlyne, Novoukrainka, Kotlyarivka, Sukhа Balka, Bohdanivka, and in the direction of Muravka.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Russian forces advanced along the T0428 highway Andriivka – Novopavlivka west of Andriivka, attempted to advance west of Konstyantynopil, southwest of Rozlyv, and near Bahatyr, and attacked near Oleksiivka. The enemy captured Rozlyv.
On the Huliaypole direction, the 5th Separate Tank Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army is fighting for Vesele. The enemy is attempting to advance near Fedorivka, in the Vilne Pole – Burlatske area, and attacked near Dniproenerhiya, in the direction of Myrne, near Pryvilne, Novosilka, and Shevchenkove.
On the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces attacked near Novodanylivka, Stepove, Shcherbaky, and Mali Shcherbaky. In three weeks of fighting, the enemy advanced 2 km, captured Pyatykhatky, entrenched on the outskirts of Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, and Shcherbaky, but its advance has sharply slowed.
The pace of the enemy offensive in the operational zone of the 58th Combined Arms Army in the Dolynka – Shcherbaky and Pyatykhatky – Stepove directions has dropped to zero. Although assault units of the 108th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division, supported by elements of the 503rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 19th Motorized Rifle Division and the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Combined Arms Army, continue intensive attacks, they have been unable to break through north of the Kamianske – Orikhiv road in the Stepove – Shcherbaky sector.
The 429th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 19th Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Combined Arms Army advances in the direction of Kamianske.
Ukrainian Defense Forces counterattack along the entire front line in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
General conclusion:
The command of the 20th Combined Arms Army is trying to develop its tactical successes in the Makiyivka – Terny section, in the Ivanivka – Katerynivka and Ivanivka – Zelena Dolyna directions. It shifted the direction of the main attack from the Ivanivka – Kolodyazi direction to the north and northwest of it. Having temporarily abandoned the breakthrough toward Lyman via Drobysheve, the enemy is attempting to cut off the salient of the "Khortytsia" Operational-Strategic Grouping (OSG) between Kopanky and Katerynivka using the forces of the 144th Motorized Rifle Division of the 20th Combined Arms Army and the 4th Tank Division of the 1st Tank Army, which is trying to advance on the northern flank in the directions of Raihorodok – Cherneshchyna and Pershotravneve – Kopanky.
The deployment of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army in the Toretsk direction has not led to quick success either in the Nelipivka – Shcherbynivka direction or along the line Sukhа Balka – Oleksandropil, although the enemy has made advances there, captured Panteleymonivka, and entrenched in it, initiating battles for Oleksandropil. Overall, the division has been deployed into the operation and is acting strangely in diverging directions – to the north toward Pleshchiivka and Shcherbynivka, and to the west, toward Sukhа Balka and the N20 road. The deployment of the 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army here also does not prove successful: the division is engaged in combat, trying to secure its left flank and take control of the Yelyzavetivka area, as its further advance toward Nova Poltavka and Tarasivka would be under constant counterattacks by Ukrainian Defense Forces.
A rapid offensive on Kostyantynivka from the south and southeast from the direction of Vozdvyzhenka and Toretsk, simultaneously with enemy actions in the Chasiv Yar – Kostyantynivka direction, which could occur at the end of April, appears unlikely.
Change in the line of contact (LoC):
There were 156 combat engagements on various fronts.
On the Kharkiv direction, 4 assaults occurred toward Kamyanka and in the area of Vovchansk.
On the Kupyansk direction, 5 enemy attacks took place. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled assault actions in the areas of Zahryzove, Petropavlivka, and toward Nova Kruhlyakivka.
On the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 19 times, attempting to advance near Hrekivka, Nove, Katerynivka, and toward Novomykhailivka, Torske, and Zelena Dolyna.
On the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked in the areas of Verkhnyokamianske and toward Ivano-Dariivka and Vyimka. Four clashes took place.
On the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled one enemy assault toward Predtechyne.
On the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 29 attacks in the areas of Krymske, Dachne, Druzhba, Dyliivka, Toretsk, and Leonidivka.
On the Pokrovsk direction, 57 enemy attacks were stopped in the areas of Novokalynove, Tarasivka, Yelyzavetivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Preobrazhenka, Sribne, Novoserhiyivka, Nadiivka, Uspenivka, Andriivka, and toward Romanivka, Oleksiivka, Vodyane Druhe, Kotlyarivka, and Oleksandropil.
On the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 9 enemy assaults in the directions of Rozlyv and Konstyantynopil.
On the Orikhiv direction, the occupiers carried out 8 failed attacks in the areas of Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, and Kamianske.
On the Prydniprovske direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to advance twice.
On the Kursk direction, 13 clashes occurred. The enemy carried out 16 airstrikes.
In the Black Sea-Azov naval operational area, the enemy naval group on combat duty consists of:
Mediterranean Sea: 4 ships, including 3 cruise missile carriers; the total salvo is 26 cruise missiles.
Supporting operation:
There were no strikes.
Changes in the enemy disposition:
The enemy is regrouping the 1st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division and the 423rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 4th Tank Division from the operational zone of the 1st Tank Army to the zone of the 20th Combined Arms Army in order to develop the tactical successes of the 20th Combined Arms Army's forces on the Lyman direction. In the near future, the enemy will attempt to transfer at least part of these regiments to the bridgehead in the area of Ivanivka and deploy them in combat in northern and northwestern directions.
The 102nd Motorized Rifle Regiment and the 174th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the 150th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army, the 346th Separate SOF Brigade, and the 77th Motorized Rifle Regiment operate near Dyliivka. The 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the 8th Combined Arms Army operates near Oleksandropil and Panteleymonivka.
The withdrawal/replacement of several units of the 132nd Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Combined Arms Army on several sections of the Toretsk direction has begun. This is more likely due to the loss of offensive capabilities rather than the reorganization of this brigade into a division of the same name.
The 1461st Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 36th Combined Arms Army and the 14th Separate SOF Brigade attack in the direction of Velyka Novosilka.
The command of the 58th Combined Arms Army expects to receive reinforcements soon from the return of units of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division and the 56th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division. The transfer of the 76th Air Assault Division to the Orikhiv direction is also possible. The command of the 42nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 58th Combined Arms Army reinforced the 70th Motorized Rifle Regiment, after which it intensified its offensive on the Orikhiv direction and deployed a battalion tactical group from the 100th Separate Reconnaissance Brigade, reinforced with unmanned aerial vehicle units. The 247th Air Assault Regiment of the 7th Air Assault Division is advancing in Lobkove.
Possible operation situation developments:
The plan for the enemy's spring-summer offensive campaign in the Southwestern Theater of Operations may be as follows: a simultaneous breakthrough towards Kostyantynivka and Druzhkivka from the south and southeast (from the direction of Toretsk and Vozdvyzhenka), as well as from the northeast (from the direction of Chasiv Yar), followed by an advance towards Kramatorsk from the south while simultaneously advancing towards Slovyansk with the forces of the 20th and 25th Combined Arms Armies of the "Zapad (West)" Operational Grouping through Lyman.
The enemy cannot establish a full-fledged buffer zone on the border of Kursk and Sumy Oblasts, so the simplest option may be an invasion of Sumy Oblast by a grouping of 22,000–27,000 military personnel along the Sumy–Sudzha highway within a 35–40 km-wide zone (stretching from Zhuravka to Myropillya). This territory has already been turned into a buffer zone by Ukrainian Defense Forces, which will greatly complicate enemy actions.
Russian forces may use the bridgehead northeast of Lyman for the further capture of Borova or Lyman in the coming months. The enemy may focus on advancing from Ivanivka to Kolodyazi in the general direction of Lyman or toward Nove and Katerynivka in the general direction of Borova. Russian forces will attempt to advance east and southeast of Borova to create conditions for an offensive along the Novoserhiyivka – Druzhelyubivka – Novyi Myr line, bypass Ukrainian defenses in these settlements, and advance eastward and toward Borova in the coming months.
Possible enemy courses of action in the Lyman direction may also include attempts to use the expansion of the bridgehead on the western bank of the Zherebets River near Ivanivka for the further capture of Lyman. The enemy may try to advance toward Karlivka from Nove and toward Drobysheve from Kolodyazi, attempting to reach and secure the Karlivka – Shandryholove – Drobysheve line while simultaneously intensifying the offensive near Torske and advancing on Lyman from the east.
Ukrainian Defense Forces may launch an offensive in the direction of Lyman Pershyi – Horobivka – Tavilzhanka, which, if successful, will lead to either the enemy's rapid retreat from the Dvorichna bridgehead or its encirclement there. Such a development would result in the loss of combat capability of the entire enemy's 6th Combined Arms Army.
On the Kramatorsk direction, the envelopment of Chasiv Yar from the south by advancing toward Stupochky will be a priority for the command of the 3rd Combined Arms Army and the 98th Airborne Division of the enemy.
The operational plan of the 8th Combined Arms Army on the Kostyantynivka direction is to envelop the tactical group of the "Khortytsia" OSG, which is defending south of Kostyantynivka between Oleksandropil and Tarasivka from the flanks. The enemy aims to encircle and destroy this group or, if unable to do so, force it to withdraw from the area south of Kostyantynivka in a northwestern direction under the threat of encirclement. The ultimate goal of these actions is a two-pronged breakthrough from the southwest and southeast toward the area of Stepanivka – Berestok – Pleshchiivka – Yablunivka, followed by a simultaneous assault on Kostyantynivka from this area and from the direction of Chasiv Yar. After the reaching the Poltavka–Pleshchiivka line, the enemy’s 3rd Combined Arms Army, reinforced by an airborne forces group, will attempt a rapid breakthrough from the bridgehead on the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas canal in the Chasiv Yar area, advancing from the northeast toward Kostyantynivka.
The objective of enemy forward units attacking in the Shcherbaky area may be to seize the commanding heights located west of Orikhiv from Novoandriivka to Novopavlivka. This position would allow the enemy to establish fire control over the Orikhiv – Komyshuvakha road, which is the main logistical route for the “Tavriya” OSG in the Orikhiv defensive area. In the near future, the direction of the main strike by the 58th Combined Arms Army from the zone of the 19th Motorized Rifle Division is likely to shift further east (possibly Nesteryanka – Novoandriivka). Operationally, the enemy offensive in the Zaporizhzhia direction may resemble an attempt to outflank the Orikhiv defensive area from the flanks by attacking from the Shcherbaky – Nesteryanka line toward the heights west of Orikhiv and from the Myrne – Novopokrovka line toward the heights located east of the city.

Thirty-four people sustained various injuries and stress, including three minors.
On the morning of April 4, Russian occupiers attacked a vehicle belonging to the NGO "Buty Dobru" in Kherson Oblast, which is engaged in evacuating residents from dangerous areas. Thanks to the vehicle being armored, no one was injured, but the car was completely destroyed by fire.
On the morning of April 4, Russians again attacked the Semenivka community with strike drones. Transport and civilian infrastructure were damaged. There is destruction in the town of Semenivka, but no casualties were reported.

After 3:00 PM on April 4, Russian troops shelled the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. As a result, apartment buildings, a hospital, and an educational institution were damaged. One man was injured.
In a border village of Novhorod-Siverskyi district, Russian invaders dropped an explosive from a drone onto a truck belonging to an agricultural enterprise worker. The man was hospitalized.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the occupiers have deliberately mined civilian infrastructure, creating deadly danger for the population and preventing territory restoration, according to Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
In temporarily occupied Crimea, due to repressions and illegal detentions by Russians, 252 children have been left without their fathers’ care. Sixteen of these children were born after the father’s arrest.
Since February 2022, 336 people in Ukraine have been killed (including 18 children), and 825 have been injured due to explosive hazards.
